“I’ve never seen a female driver delivering my propane before!”

When Isheka Carson started with us in February, it was not unusual for her to hear this comment when she met customers for the first time.

“This job is hard, physical work so I can understand the reaction. I’m a petite person, but I’m strong,” says Isheka, who is known to her co-workers as Sheka. “Customers see me carrying the hose from the truck to their tank and they’re impressed.”

Born in Jamaica, she arrived in the U.S. 35 years ago and settled in Peekskill before re-locating to Dutchess County.

Sheka worked as a bus driver for the Arlington Central School District for many years and also won praise for her skills as a bus mechanic.

“I saw a post online that Bottini was hiring drivers and I knew my experience made me qualified,” she says. “I felt it was time for a career change. I really like what I do now and everyone at Bottini has been great to work with.”

Off the job, Sheka likes working on cars (of course she does!) and listening to music. She has a 24-year-old son, a 17-year-old stepdaughter and a daughter who will turn three years old in July.
